About this deal

i'm happy to tell anybody who cares to know that this book, did indeed, make me very happy ❤️‍🩹 reading this to fill the void finishing the infernal devices had left in me was quite possibly the best decision of my life. had I read it any other time, we all know what the outcome might've been. now, is this book predictable? yes, absolutely. but that's the magic of it. each chapter starts with a quote from very popular romance movies. if that didn't convince you to read this book... i don't know what will. imagine every single one of your favorite movies combined, fake dating, classic romcom references. butterflies while reading! Liz and her love for retro dresses. I relate to that and had no judgment on her fashion sense despite the contrary belief by other characters in the book.

Specifically, all of her gushing over Michael was just not it. I was disgusted and cringing every five minutes, to the point where I had to pause the audiobook and do history homework to attempt to burn the scenes from my mind multiple times. It was not fun, to say the least. this book was so cu-” until liz ruined it!! i had such high expectations after the praise this book got. but i’m not gonna lie and say this book didn’t get boring. i did like the ending tho. throughout the book, i became unsure i was gonna like it but the ending did raise my standards. the ending was the only part i liked abt this book. the rest was mediocre hence the rating. however i did find the meager taylor swift references to be cute. this is a sign to never read books purely for the taylor swift references.there are definitely little quirks about better than the movies that can irk people, but this was exactly the fluffy rom-com book i needed. wesliz fit so well together, they're literally weird and weirder. they made each other laugh, their banter was so entertaining, the tension, the yearning, the jealousy - it was so so good. the way their relationship gradually developed throughout the book, and liz got to see and know the real him, chef's kiss. ya contemporaries don't get better than this. the perfect candidate for fake-dating according to liz, would be wes bennett, her annoying next-door neighbor. but as they scheme for michael and her to go to prom, liz seems to hit it off with wes. will she really have her happily ever after that she dreamed of when she was younger, with her mom?

Better Than the Movies is about a hopeless romantic Liz, who tries to ensure a happily-ever-after moment with her longtime crush, but instead finds herself captivated to the lad next door.these two are the cutest. literally the definition of high school sweethearts istg. and omg the bantering was absolutely perfect. it’s a long time since i’ve read a cute romance, with a healthy relationship, and it was definitely needed ! i didn’t realize how much i’ve missed this type of rom-com couple. wes and liz are adorable, and i love them so much ! a total comfort couple, and that’ll definitely put a smile on your face <3 i liked their connection, and the lighthearted romance. i loved the small gestures wes did for liz, but ngl i kinda wish she made a little more for him too, because if there’s one guy that deserves that it’s wes. he was just always there for her. and please, can we talk about how taylor swift coded they are ? liz, this bitch was the biggest hater ever. me & jess consider ourselves the biggest haters but she surpasses even us and that's baffling. the feeling of missing a loved one is hard to portray, especially in a ya book, but her grief and stubborness to not miss any key moments with her mom.. going prom shopping, buying makeup and clothing together, getting coffee at a cute cafe, watching a sappy movie, it just made me feel thankful for the fact that i got to live those moments with my mum. i'm sorry and sending love to anyone who didn't get to experience that feeling <33
